2. Influences
My first class in SBU's Studio Art program was oil painting with Professor Jason Paradis. One of our assignments was to reproduce a painting from a master. One of my favorite painters is Gustav Klimt. Here is my rendition of Klimt's The Girlfriends. This painting was chosen for my love of rich vibrant colors, patterns, and contrast. This form was the basis of my glass composition.
Below (photo from book) is Hope II also by Klimt. There are similarities in how the models were posed and the how the garments were draped over their shoulders. In The Girlfriends, Klimt's symbolic patterns surround the subjects, in contrast to Hope II where the patterns are the subject. My original plan was to make the dress a collage of personal photos. Each oval representing an personal event or significant people in the woman's life.
